I think racism would be far less of a problem if people would just get over it and grow a thicker skin. Predjudice is everywhere. Were you picked on in school? Black to white racism is just as much a problem now as white to black. Passing up someone for a job or a scholarship because of the color of their skin; that's racism, isn't it? Well, that's what affirmative action is for! Their are hundreds of scholarships for african americans or other ethnicities, but very few for caucasians. There are movies without a single white person in them, and if the reverse were true, then it would be called racism. Someone will probably call ME a racist for saying these things, though I havn't once said that I believe that one race is superior to the other which, by the way, is the actual definition of racism. These days, all you have to do is speak an opinion that someone doesn't like, and they will apply some sort of useless label to you. I'm done ranting now. Thank you!

Some answers imply that the answerer doesn't know that the Scots are the same race as the English.
Personally I talk to people and try to decide whether I like the person or not because of their attitudes and mentality and not because of the colour of their skin. Working with asylum seekers I meet all sorts of people. Even a racist, who is a really nice guy. He admitted freely that he was racist, said it was just the way he was, but, he never caused any problems in the hostel. He simply avoided contact with other races. He accepted his situation and got on with it.

This begs the question are all racists white, personal experience has taught me that there are a great number of people out there whose skin is not pale who are as racist as their white counterparts, you only have to listen to ethnic groups and you soon realise there is tension between West Indian communities and say the Somalis. both black both from Africa, originally, we are going to have even more trouble when Romanys and other minority groups from the enlarged EU start to flood into Europe, Encouraged to leave their home countries by governments who detest them and will be only too relieved to dump them on us, there will be a horse drawn caravan near you soon in the future, already schools are under great strain with immigrant children who do not speak any English, I don't care if they come here or not but one prerequisite of entry should be a certain standard of the language BEFORE they get in.
I can not go into a shop wearing my Motorcycle helmet but its OK to go in dressed literally from head to foot in a long coverall with only my eyes showing and sometimes even the eyes are covered with a net veil. My country ? not any more

unfortunately racism will continue to exist. an example being that an Asian girl dating a white guy or any outside her race will be faced with real anger from her own yet a coloured guy can date outside his race without much opposition. Another example is the issue with illegal immigration and benefit handouts. A huge problem that only fuels the fire of racist attitudes.

Racism is wrong. Unfortunately, it's unavoidable. There are too many uneducated people from all races. I don't know about Glasgow (I've been there, but never long enough to notice a race issue). In the United States, there are people from all races who are racist. There are black people who blame everything on the white people, white people who hate black people, mexicans who hate anyone who's not mexican, etc. It's sad, but it's true.

I agree with you but the problem is too many people are ignorant and do not except people who are different.

I personally like everyone however, if I have an issue with a person it has nothing to do with color, just that individual. I refuse to go around hating a ethnic group because of one individual who is stupid, who did something to me..

I just want to say that I wish we could have more white people like you in the world....

i agree with you. don't know much about glasgow but i'm sure it the same everywhere give or take. the world is getting to small for racism. i believe the world is going throught a cultural revolution, not without it's problems mind you, but if we can get by the next 50 to a 100 years without killing each others, i bet you the world be a better place for our children.

i'm glad to see you got so many positive replies. it gives me hope for the future

Ideally, it would be great if racist remarks/people were banned, or even better, did not exist. However, racism exists because people dont want to learn about the other cultures. i think that racism is awful... my best friend makes silly comments about Chinese/Asian people all the time. Although i dont agree with her comments, she is entitled to make them in the comfort of her own home...

come to leicester for a while and watch racsim in all its glory, go to tescos and spot the white check out person, have a car accident with an asian who was clearly at fault on an empty country road and see how many asian bystanders say it was your fault. notice how suspiciously they watch you when you walk into their shops, or how they make sure their skin doesnt touch yours when they hand over the change or how they speak their own language when whites are arround, this country has gone to pot
