My friend has a 1996 Altima, its got about 150,000 miles on it, and its running great, just recently got its first clutch replaced, which is amazing, normally they last about half that time. Its surprisingly fun to drive, especially if you get the manual transmission. We've actually done some pretty stupid things in it, and its survived through it all. For example, he got a wreckless driving ticket for having a little too much fun in an empty parking lot. We also litterally jumped the car into a ditch in the mountains around Fairplay, Colorado, (on accident of course). But either way, its a great car, really durable, and lots of fun.

I drove one for a rental and thought it was an OK sedan.
A little more road noise than the Maxima and upper luxury models. Decent gas mileage around 25 mpg combined.

Are you buying new or used? I mean pre-owned.
I would get the Toyota Camry for the same class and price range. Toyotas have better maintenance record and higher resale value.
