If you are a guy and want to retain your independence it will not be easy. Men have much narrower parameters socially than women. You are much more restricted in what you can and can not do and still be "a man". So I would not encourage you to do anything drastic, But in small ways, push the envelope of what is acceptable with one or two of your male friends. Try to get them to open up and talk more about questions of justice, fairness, compassion, or emotions. The more they can bond with you as a real human being, without the masks, the more you will feel happy in your relationships with men in general.
