i can't understand why they put the butter on ice either. it's like hello, how am i sposed to spread this. and then when you get your meal, the baked tater has a scoop of soft butter melting on it.

When I waited tables at a pretty nice restaurant, there was one guy who demaned him butter be served opened (as opposed to the little foil packets) and be freezer cold. I think he just liked the power trip and he tippedd like crap.

Everyone else got butter that sat out when were open but in the fridge when we were closed.

You can hold those little butters and the soften up pretty fast.

1) you don't spread it

you break off the piece of bread/roll
that you want to eat,
and use your knife (butter knife in some establishments)
to cut off a section of butter from the serving of butter that is on the bread & butter dish at your place setting
(or on the edge of your dinner plate)

and spread the butter on that piece of bread

2) try frequenting restaurants that make their own bread
it's ususally served warm

or,
3) get your date to
blow on it

I don't mind the cold butter but I hate it when they serve it with crushed ice. Cold warms up in a little while but when they serve it with ice the ice melts and you have a plate with butter floating around in water.

Just do what I do, if the butter comes in packets, I put it underneath my armpit or behind my knee. Sounds strange but it melts the butter very nicely.
