It might be "well, uh" which doesn't mean anything at all. Its just what people say when they are trying to find the right word@!I think in Spanish it is like "este"

My only advice would be to talk either to the boy or his friend, and find out what he said to you. If it's something complimentary, all well and good. If not, then you don't need either of them.
