that is difficult to answer because it's been on so long..

Best I guess would be Tom Baker, he certainly is the most popular. And I think he played the role the longest.
When he began they were low budget and you would often see the same props in different episodes; by the time he left, the budget had increased (along with popularity) and the sets were better. Also more plots were in space and not on earth.
Even when Sylvester McCoy (whom I hated) played the Doctor, I still considered myself to be a Whovian

Tom Baker was the doctor of my childhood and I've always considered him the best but I never liked K9. After him I would have to say Jon Pertwee, I remember when he changed into the Tom Baker character, as a child it freaked me out.

Ah, now if you was to ask me this a year or two ago I would have had to answer with Tom Baker, but now I think at joint first is David Tennant who is an absolute joy to watch.

Great question. I liked John Pertwee and the curly headed one with the really long scaf. The late 60's thru the early 80's was the best I think. I love that show. I have seen many episodes and I like the ones that had daleks, cybermen, and things like that. Being a girl, I always identified with his helpers. I had a crush on the curly headed man (what is his name!). He could have taken me through time any time. :)

Tom Baker with Peter Davidson a close second. Though I liked the cat pins Colin Baker wore.

tom baker was the best - he fit the part quite well. the most attractive was christopher eccelston. david tennant has a nose like a parrot beak, not quite sure if I like him yet, I'll have to watch another episode or two

I have only seen one episode with David Tennant but he is looking pretty promising. Paul McGann was good but he only got to try out the role in the one movie.

Tom Baker, no question! That smile, that robotic dog! OK, so the scarf was stupid, I admit that. But he was irresistible! Really fun!!
