There is a misconception among many people in the world. Actors, in general, are much older than you would think. The labor laws are much stricter when you are under 18 and thus, it is not a general practice to hire lots of young people unless they are really truly needed. Go onto IMDB.com and search for your favorite stars. I bet they are all at least two years older than you. Every rich Hollywood parent wants their kids to be stars. To compete with the very rich - connected kids - for the highly coveted roles for young persons is really hard. I would suggest that you go to high school and do musicals and plays and all that, then get really good grades and go to college. Even Natalie Portman and Ann Hathaway went to college and major in something you really like. I know it seems weird to say that you are going to wait 8 years for your career, but the time off can help you figure out the best ways to get into the field.
Do not take college as "your back up plan." I majored in theatre (with two degrees) and now I work at one of the best Tony-award winning theatres in the US. After this I plan on going to New York to work at a few theatres there, then when I am done with living off what I can, I will return to LA with a really good theatre resume and start working on TV and at the movies.

Everyone takes a different path to success; you just need to look at all the options before you get upset over the roadblocks to one.

There are subtle differences between working for the camera, and working on stage. But the process of acting remains the same... Study acting... and also study, acting for the camera.

I recently found a new "Film" acting class to enroll in... oddly enough it it taught on a "Film" stage... by an instructor who teaches the exact same class for "Theater" at a diffeent location (A Theater Stage... imagine that) on a different night of the week.

The class structure is identical... the exercises that help develop an actors skill are the same... but one is for camera, and one is for stage.

Find an acting class you enjoy and enroll in it... when the course is completed, go find another class to enroll in.

You take acting lessons, because you want to become an actor, NOT, to become a TV star.

It is not up to the actor to decide if he will work in television, theater, or film. You work in the area where your agents thinks you are best suited.
