Anousheh Ansari, the first female space tourist, made a comment that space smelled like burnt almond cookies. Is this going to affect how people look at space tourists and women in space? Isf so, positively or negatively. :/

If you had read the blog you would know that it was the professional astronauts that told her to get ready for the "smell of space" when they opened the hatch between the Soyuz and the ISS. I suppose the smell is residue of the thrusters on the surfaces between the space craft or something like that, but I don't know and they didn't say. Anyway, all Anousheh did was give her impression of what the smell reminded her of. I think it is absolutely great how she is giving so many details of her experience. No tough guy, right stuff, down playing unpleasant aspects and no ho-hum been there done that accounts of seeing Earth from space and such. It is really great what she is doing!

Why bother with some small side comment done in jest when it's the "science" comments we should be more interested in. I'm sure many comments over the years recorded by scientists and their "assistants" over the many experiments had just as "interesting" (if not worse) smells than "burnt almond cookies". If such comments were brought to the public, would we really think their comments of the smells from many of our major discoveries make us think about further developments of such things as cancer research or underwater survival? I think not.

Don't fret about the small things. See past this and look to what she "really" has to say.

Since when is someone not allowed to make a silly comment in their own damn blog? Obviously she was not making a definitive scientific observation about the smell of space. I personally think its really interesting to hear about the experience of being in outer space from a humanistic point of view.

HEHE which will be my cousin and we would bypass look at jupiter... hehe and there is a narrative in the back of it. See on each occasion i say some thing stupid, my cousin would question me " WHat planet are u from ?" maximum continually i say i'm from pluto ( which isn't a planet anymore.) yet one time i stated Jupiter only becoz i became drained of pluto. impulsively he stated " possibly it really is why ur head is as large as Jupiter !! " LOL ! We had a good snort. So if i'm getting the danger to bypass to visit a planet, i'd bypass to Jupiter with him to expose him that my head isn't as large as jupiter !lol ~~~@!!@! good question ! delivered me again some good thoughts ! i like Mumbhai India's answer !! hehe made me snort !!!

Yes and it will have a negative impact. Space shouldn't have any smell and people at large will believe she is telling the truth because they don't know otherwise unless they visit themselves. And more people than not are gullible when it comes to the media.

unless they opened the hatch and she stuck her head out she was either smelling herself or her spaceship since she was in a contained environment.
