With the cricket soon to start what do others think, is it wrong or just a bit of fun a few days ago on the Today Show they had 3 English supporters on the show who all said that it is fine and all a bit of fun
But just of late i have noticed a lot of sports fans who jump up and down and have a cry if you do anything like sledging some body or there team
So is it racist or just fun and do people need to lighten up a bit

Haha, I saw it on the ninemsn page as well. I voted no. I believe British people don't mind. But I don't know, as I can't speak on behalf of them (I'm not British).

I believe the word "pom" is just another name for an Englishman. It's like calling an Australian "Aussie" or "mate". That's how I see it. I wonder why they put the poll up there. Was there something on the news about it?

Anyway, I can't wait till the cricket season begins, and we can beat those "poms" at the Ashes!

No, I think it is cool to call the poms 'Poms'. My wife is english and has a network of expat brits here in Aust. and she calls them her pommy mates. But if you call a pom a black pom or anything pertaining to there heritage then beware, you could be branded a racist.
There are theory of where the word POM originates from. Some say the word Pom means us Australians who where transported over during the convict days - Prisoner Of Mother England - POMe you will see these letters in old books that describe our convict back ground. So we can maybe hear Andrew Flintoff spraying Ricky Ponting during the ashes and calling him a ' Pommy bastard' ...........mmmmmm!!

you wouldn't want to call a stranger a pom especially at a sport do.it could be taken as an insult. but if you are buddies and it is said in a nice joking way its ok, but if you were asked not to call them that you would have to respect that.
