It depends on your colouring, which I think is the most unconsidered apsect when people decide on an outfit. Because I have red hair, I find that when I wear a black dress I can get away with a brown shoe because it evens out the colouring. Tan is the best colour for redheads. Anything that is a dark brown is a definate no. If you are blonde or brunette I would go with a black shoe. A nice open toe black pump would be great because they are so versatile and can be worn with so many other outifts.

Only if the shoes have some black in them, and you are planning on adding brown somewhere else in your outfit.
As a general rule, black and brown don't go together.

I guess you can if you want!!!
I guess if black & brown do not go together then there are A LOT of designers out there who don't know what they are doing. I have seen brown dresses with black prints & visa versa. Brown shoes with black on them & visa versa. There are black sweaters with brown in them!!!!!
I do agree with those who said to accessorize with a brown purse, etc. If the dress is solid colored & the shoes are just brown especially.....

It really depends on the style of each. I would advise if you do plan to go with brown, make it a shiny, almost metallic or bronze, strappy depeneding on the style of dress.. but if you have the coice of anyther colour shoe, I would go with a bright or patterned colour just to make things a bit more fun!

Dear gawd no!! Silver, Black or a bright jewel tone are the only acceptable ones!! If it's colorful, it will look better if it's suede, but any material will work.

Its ok but only if your other accessories like purse, belts etc. are brown... But I think other colors, red, silver, gold, black with matching color accessories will go better than brown...

Light brown, yes But if it's dark and barely seeable, no. Dark doesn't go with dark. Remember black and white are the best combination!

No. Brown does not go with blue either. Brown goes with, um, brown, beige, tan, maybe yellow. On second thought, not yellow.
