I think it comes from a tradition of certain gangsters kissing a traitor as a symbol that the friendship is over, and soon their lives. Today when this phrase is used, it is rarely acted about. But still means you have betrayed or taken an oath which has been broken so now must pay the "price".

The term "Kiss of Death" originated with Judas' betrayal of Jesus with a kiss in the Garden of Gethsemane. It can also be referred to as a Judas Kiss.
