It's really hard. Hopefully, it isn't as hard for you as it was for me. I moved after seventh grade, so I had to make new friends in eighth grade... That didn't pan out so well. When I went into high school, I had to make new friends, which wasn't nearly as bad. I found people there who were a lot like me. My church was what really helped me make friends. They have what's called Discipleship Groups, where you meet every week with people that live near you. Great group of guys. They robbed me of my shyness in a LOT of ways... One of the people in my group was my neighbor, Tim. I tell him things I would hesitate to tell even my parents.
Sorry.. didn't mean to give you my life story. If there is a way you can get to know some people from school outside of the school environment, that would probably be your best bet.
Good luck!

Do after school activities like sports or something. Try to make little conversations with whoever is sitting near you in your classes. Hang out with the dorks and then people could invite you to move to another table. I know it may seem strange but do something evil to a popular guy. Maybe, pour milk on his lunch or pull down his pants. I know its strange but this dorky guy in my school became so popular for doing just that. I don't get it but it works.

take a step out of the box and make an effort to talk to people and just be yourself. most importantly, be yourself. you may not know who that is right now, but just do your best to be whoever it seems to be. take one small step at a time and before you know it you will make some major changes in your shyness habit. oh, and good posture helps too.... really.

Maybe try to go out and hang out with the right crowd and just start a conversion. Thinkk of what your interests are. do you like sports? If so why not start a conversion about that. Now, not everyone is going to be responsive but that is their problem, just keep trying and it will happen.

The best way is to get involved with our students through groups, activities or clubs of the same interest. The more you find your comfort zone the easier it is to feel confident in finding things to say. Takes away the fear factor of failure so to speak of. Trust me it all works out!

hun the only way to get over your shyness is just to let go of that feelin of doubt when you think you want to go up to someone and talk and just do it. I used to weigh 412 lbs now I am 290lbs lighter and back then you couldnt get me to talk to anyone now I just let that little voice in my head that says no dont I'm scared, I ignore it and just go for it and be myself. Let loose and just jump in and youll be suprised with the outcome.

I used to be shy. I talked to five people each day. Eventually some of the people I talked to became my friends. Start by giving compliments. Asking how their day is going. Talk about school. You'll be fine.
