On the Yahoo main page, there is a female astronaut who just returned from space who made that statement. What would cause such a thing to occur?

space cant smell like anything because there is nothing in it. it's EMPTY SPACE. that is why this is possibly the dumbest crap ive ever heard an "educated person" say.

now all these old grandmas are gonna be running around just like they did after the da vinci code with their new gossip and telling people that space smells like cookies. christ...

The astronauts that told Anousheh to get ready for the "smell of space" when they opened the hatch between the Soyuz and the ISS. I suppose the smell is residue of the thrusters on the surfaces between the space craft or something like that, but I don't know and they didn't say.

I thought that was strange, too. Why does it smell like nothing, here on Earth?
Maybe it's got something to do with the inside of the space shuttle, because they have manufactured gases for the astronauts and cosmonauts to breathe.

Well, the space station has only a closed ventilation system. They have to breathe the same air over and over again. Eventually, all the body smells and machinery are going to mutually create a nasty smell.

Burnt almond smell is often associated with cyanide, but I don't suppose they have a gas chamber up there.

Well, obviously she didn't actually "smell" space. She would have been like......."Hmmmm, take off my helmet.....It smells li--" BANG! She is dead from implotion.
