here's one, Locke believed all men have the right to "Life, Liberty, and Property." Property is something you gain through work.
Now, he didn't say that all men have a right to work (you know, we all pretty much have to fight for that) but he said you have a right to "stuff", your own stuff, that the government can't control.
we (USA Preamble) changed it to "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness" which means, we're not going to guarantee that you're going to acquire "stuff", (things you want, things your need) but you have a right to take a good shot
and with this kind of attitude, as you know we already have a lot of poverty, people get to be neglected because not everyone is really getting taken care of (and they're not trying to)
but once you cross that line, you enter into Communism territory so...
-Government with Consent of the Governed
Bush stole the last election
people want him to go otherwise, and he's still here
need I say more
(that's just ONE example in the world of that going awry, you have Sadam Hussein, French pres. Jaque Chirac wanting to colonize Asia and junk, etc.)
As Humans, by human nature, we have the ability to reason, and we have tolerance. In a natural state (I guess State (I'm getting this from Wikipedia)) all people were equal and independent, and none had a right to harm another’s “life, health, liberty, or possessions.”
now U.S. has laws, but, you could say our own government is harming our health with those jacked up health insurance costs, medicine costs, and lack of service
liberty well.... this whole term is debatable on its definition
possessions- there's laws to protect this. Though we often disobey them
Checks and Balances
nope, Bush is God, along with his puppets
we just get checked, for asking questions
basically, anybody that has money can be the president if you're living in a capitalist government. though some people have combinations of capitalist-socialist or capitalist-whatever and they may have some of the same factors going on, or not.
go here to compare and see what I mean
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Locke
one more thing, on the Liberty tip
and this is something we discussed in class
You know, historically, we as Black people have really been ignored on the whole "Liberty" thing, and it's sensitive to me, and that's why I avoided it up there.
We were slaves, okay, and they knew, the whole time while they were writing the constitution that we was gonna be slaves, and here they come talking about some "Liberty".
And if you look at the state of things today, with Bush trying to get rid of affirmative action, which you know we need, because the reality is that a lot of racism still does exist and without that extra push, we will not get key positions, you might wanna ask yourself did we really get that far.
I mean, the fact that we even need it may make you wanna ask some questions.
In general, we are neglected of "stuff", good housing, money (you can get how many dollars a black man makes to a white man on the web, etc.), opportunities in general, opportunities in government so don't go there with some Liberty
and women in Michigan get 70 cents out of every dollar a man makes, this has been a recent study. But pay rates in general here have gone up, BECAUSE more women entering the middle-class workforce. So go figure.
