Dinosaurs were probably on their way out long before the comet struck the Yucatan peninsula, as there were comparatively few species still in existence at that time 65 million years ago. So their extinction was not really a sudden event, but a gradual dying off. The comet may have finished them off.
There have been a lot of explanations offered over the years to explain their demise. Some have suggested that mammals ate their eggs. Climatic changes have been suggested. New types of plants that the dinosaurs could not adapt to digesting. A global plague. Radiation from a supernova. Alien hunters. Noah's Flood. None of these are really very satisfactory. The comet theory might be the best, if it were not for the fact they were already dying out when it happened. What started them down the road to extinction though? I don't think anyone really knows. Perhaps we may figure it out someday.

The Alvarez Hypothesis states that an asteroid, comet, or gigantic meteorite hit the area around Yucatan, causing a kind of nuclear winter for several years, which caused a large enough loss of biomass as to create an extinction event.
The evidence of this global nuclear winter is seen in what geologists call the KT Layer, which is a thin layer of ash at a certain level down in the rock strata, that seems to be universally distributed around the planet.
To quote one source:
In 1973, geologist Walter Alvarez discovered large amounts of iridium in Gubbio, Italy. By 1980 the team of geologists inferred that a large terrestrial object such as a comet or meteorite had collided into the Earth 65 million years ago. The comet was thought to have a strength 10,000 times more powerful than a nuclear bomb. The impact of the comet created a dust cloud that blocked the sun, killed plant life, and thus created a mass extinction of animal life, especially the dinosaurs. Early in the 1990s a large crater near the Yucatan Peninsula was found. Numerous scientists recognized the crater as possible evidence that the Alvarez Hypothesis could possibly be true, although the hypothesis has not been proven true.
Either that, or a really drunk driver.

Since you or me weren' t there there is no for sure reason, but investigators have a pretty good set of theories. These are the more accepted ones to explain the enigma:
Earth weather warming, earth cooling by glaciation, a big el niño fenomena (wich is the caouse of the disappearing not much ago of the pre-peruvian race that then was the Cuzco Reign), the maremagnum and dust giant clauds from a celestial body, maybe a miniplanet or asteroid.
What we know now, is that if any natural superevent happens in one part of the planet, affects people on the other side of the globe, so this earth is not that strong, and need everybodies help to be healthy

It is not just one reason, because one reason cannot destroy a whole race of animals. Volcanoes, air pollution, and even lack of food and water due to competition. All these killed the dinosaurs gradually.

It,s open to speculation but the best theory seems to be that a large meteor hit the earth and had a catastrophic cooling effect on the earth causing massive extinctions of many of the life forms on the planet.

I wouldnt ask the random morons who get accounts on Yahoo and give you random answers. If the experts are still debating it, stick with one theory and wait until they find some solid proof of one theory or anohter.

Sudden Climatic changes. Food becomes scarces. And cold blood animals dies off quickly. Especially larger the animals, harder to find food and adapt, so they died off
