My dog has metal. I got metal because his rabies tag is metal and they jingle together so we know where he is at night.

I don't think it really maters what kind of ID tag you get, but the best there is. Is a special tag that your vet can place under the skin and with that their your dog wont know it is there. If you get a tag like this you will have to fill out a form with the AKC. and that will make it easier for you to get your dog back. Because if someone takes your dog to their vets office they can scan your dogs neck and they can find out who the dog belongs to. I know because I have Two dogs with those special tags. If you don't want to get that type then you could get a metal one no mater what color you choose.

I would get plastic. I think metal or silver would scratch and pets go all sorts of places and things can scratch it. Plus plastic won't jingle or make noise.

If you are trying to keep your pet safe and never loose it you should consider to insert a micro ship under its skin,
then if you lose it it will be found easily,check with your vet

SILVER BECAUSE PLASTIC BREAKS AND METAL RUSTS THEN YOU'LL HAVE TO JUST BUY MORE SILVER LAST THE LONGEST AND YOU WONT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS.

plastic they will probably eat i would go with metal so it doesnt bend or get ruined good luck
