Dawn dish soap....Fill washer and soak a few of the cloths in the washer with dawn dish soap, rub in waterless hand cleaner and let set an hour then wash.....Another option is dry-cleaning...dry-cleaning takes all oil and grease from cloths.....Good Luck

You have already excellent answers. Mine is different. I do not wash them --since they get dirty again. When I can no longer use them -- I give them to the salvation army and buy some old ones "instead" from the same outfit. They are work clothes after all -- and they should reflect the work. Hope it helps.

use mechanics waterless hand cleaner. it works great on my husbands clothes, and he gets greasy and dirty from heavy equipment and oil. use a toothbrush and put it on the grease then throw it in the laundry with a good detergent (tide or arm and hammer work for me). you will be pleasantly surprised. after all, it is made to clean grease, and by experience i found out it doesn't hurt your clothes, and is water soluable.

I lived with a mechanic for a long time.....tried a lot of things.

We had spring water.....with a lot of deposits in it too....the water source does make a difference.

I added Ammonia to his work clothes....let them soak awhile....rinsed out...washed again regularly.

After trying many, many things.....this was the best I found.

I would rinse in a tub, soak overnight in hot water and Biz, then do a prewash, heavy duty wash, and two rinses. Do both washes with heavy duuty detergent, like Tide, and Biz.
Goodluck!
