I've never tried a Twinky but they look horrible, and Oreos are just small chocolate biscuits with synthetic crap in them. What's the attraction?

THEY TASTE GOOD

I am American and don't really like Twinkies or Oreos too much.

I am not sure where you are from but I have visited several places across the ocean and I certainly can say that some of the stuff that people in the countries I visited liked on a regular basis was horrible in my opinion.

Oreos are better dipped in chocolate...

PS...
in regards to the comments made about Hershey's chocolate...it is cheap here and that is why we are enthralled with it and besides one trip to Hershey Park where you can see the stuff made, well, makes you like it all the more. We have better chocolate available to us but it so darn expensive.

I don't like Twinkys very much, I agree with you on that but Oreo's are AWESOME! There's not a lot of frosting in the middle, but it's still really good. Personally, I think most Americans will eat anything that's been fried in grease and dipped in some fatty sauce, but it's their lifestyle. You can't mess with an American tradition. Although, we can try to make ourselves healthier though...

I live in Las Vegas and I eat an occasional Twinkie. Sometimes I have been known to eat an Oreo. I don't think they're crap. I'm sure that you eat some things that I think are disgusting.
It all depends on where you are raised. Down in the American South they eat fried pig skins. I think that's crap. Taste is relative to where you are brought up.

I'm not sure about Twinkies but the reason they like Oreos so much is because they don't have jaffa cakes, hob nobs or a multitude of other confectionery biscuits that we enjoy in the UK!
Hooray!
Do you Americans realise how bad Hershey's chocolate bars taste compared to UK produced chocolate?

I had Oreos today. They're my favorite cookie. It takes awhile to eat an individual cookie. First eating one of the chocolate layers, then licking off the creamy part, then eating the last chocolate layer. Oreos just aren't like other cookies. It's just fun to eat an Oreo.
I don't eat Twinkies anymore. I did when I was a kid but they're just not that good.

I'm an american living in Oakland, California, and I hate twinkies and Oreo's for the same reasons you mentioned in your question. I think it's ignorant of you to lump all americans together like that, as we are one of the most culturally and ethnically diverse countries on the planet. As to the other part of your question, I believe the attraction is subconscious. People have eaten these nasty treats so many times as children, that they associate the sugar buzz they feel afterwards with a positive childhood memory. Also, people like sugary crap that tastes sweet. It all depends on your opinion on psychology and how childhood affects habits throughout adulthood.

They're delicious! Oreos dipped in ice-cold skim milk is quite possibly my most favorite food in the world. While I enjoyed spotted dick, I'll take an Oreo or a Twinkie. Blood sausage, anyone?

Mmmmmmmm, Twinkies! :P
I love Oreos too! I guess me as an American likes them because I grew up eating them as treats. I might think the same way about what you guys eat where you live. Twinkies dont look that good, but they are really gooood. They have a creme filling inside, its kinda like an inside-out cake! Try it, heck, you will probably like it! :):):)

Twinkies and Oreos ROCK!

No matter where you are, you end up liking the sweets you grow up with. If you're lucky enough to travel you learn to love other sweets as well. I like Twinkies and Oreos but I also love a good tarte citron from a bakery in Paris. I love Hershey's chocolate but I also love truffles and chocolate from Belgium.

In other words I think it's all about what you've been exposed to. I mean I think golden syrup sweet dumplings look like turds but I think Aussies really like them and inspite of what they look like I'd try them before I knocked them. Austrailian sticky toffee pudding sounds gross to me but I'm sure people who grew up eating it love it.

So, don't knock something until you've tried it...
