my PC will not burn cd's,even though it has cd-writer/dvd-rom combo. Suspected dirty lens,please help me.?

I have a Compac Presario AMD Sempron (tm) Processor 3000plus 1.81 ghz, 192 MB of RAM. I use either Sonic, Realplayer, or Window Media Player to burn cd's, but it stopped working one week ago. When I put songs on the list and hit burn, the disc loads, but the burn never starts. I suspected a dirty lens, but after putting a cleaner in, no program would start. I then loaded a pre-recorded album,but no program (Realplayer, Window Media) came up, when normally it would've.

The drive may need replacing, especially if it no longer responds to the insertion of blank media. But open the case, make sure all the cables are secure etc. first. It's quite possible something may simply be loose.

CD-RW drives don't last forever, they are $30 (i.e. disposable technology) items that only last a few years when subjected to heavy use.

your cd-writer .can only use cd(r) & cd(rw) disk not dvd(r) &dvd(rw) disk if your tying to burn files on to
dvd(r) &dvd(rw) disk its not going to work you need a dvd writer. if it stop working then your need to buy a new All in 1 dvd writer .drive

This is what you must do. Pull out your cd drive and open it up clean it out with tons of water. Once that is done put it back in and start up. It will work.
