I am a third year college student who wants to go into the healthcare field (which is very competitive). I'm somewhat of a lazy person. I'll start off doing well in the first two weeks of the quarter, and then i'll end up slacking. How do i stay focused, consistent, and motivated? i really want to do well this quarter! HELP!

Your future financial status, success and life style depends on what you are willing to sacrifice in the present. Stay focused and determined to finish what you have started. You have only yourself to depend on. If you tend to slip a bit then get back and tell yourself to stay focused. Success in college is all a mind game. Avoid distractors such as excessive partying, getting into unstable relationships and daydreaming.

You want to go into the healthcare field? You really have to stay focused. Think about the situations you might find yourself in once you are on the job, providing you pass your state board exam...if you have to care for someone who is in critical condition, will you know what to do? Will you know which medication or treatment this patient will need? Will you be able to pass State Board exams? Because believe me, they are not easy. The more you learn while you are in school, the better pay you will get on the job...and the more confidence and enjoyment you will get out of your job. IIf you are paying for your schooling yourself, you will not want that money to be wasted. All of these motivated me. I made it. So can you. Get busy. :o)

I think every college student has suffered from a lack of drive in some point of there studies. One winter break, my mom got a glimpse of my grades and noticed I got a W in one of my classes. She was really upset for the reason I gave for dropping it. She decided I needed to see what could happen to me if I didn't do well. She brought me to three places: McDonald's; Publix; and Walmart. At every location she asked me if I could see myself working there because if I continued to slack chances were that I would be working one of those "fine" establishments. Ummm...no. So every time I was given the option of slacking off, I reminded my self I never wanted to utter the phrases: Paper or plastic; would you like fries with that or price rollback.

Hi - great question - I have been there!
I now teach High School Freshmen study skills and character and we talk about "looking at the end from the beginning". That is - think about what graduation will be like and what it will mean to you. And then what it will be like if you don't .
Then set your mind on what you need to do between now and then to get there.
The time passes either way, and you want to have it done when that time passes. You are setting up a payoff for your life as well.
Believe in yourself, enjoy finishing, then celebrate.

Keeping motivated will graduate you from college and you will have the job you hope for..and you will be successful .. think about those when you slack off. if you really want the health care field then you will do better. It will be your fault only if you slack off too much ..and fail....

I wish I knew the answer. I'm a sophomore and I tend to be lazy, too. Just focus on what needs to be done.

See I do better under pressure (or at least that's my theory) so I always wait till last minute to do things.

Anyways, good luck!

Put your social life on hold till semester is over. Set up a routine and stick with it regardless of motivation.

Try finding a job without a degree, and work it for a year. That will motivate you.

You're right, it's very hard. I think a routine helps...staying busy and making daily studying a habit, something that you tell yourself must be done.

I always believe that people are what they do: if you fail, you're a failure. If you succeed, you're a success. If you are lazy, then well, you're lazy. Be what you want to be; you are the only person stopping you.
