'm about year to graduating from college, and looking for a grad school for proffessional counseling, I'm looking between Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida.

Can anyone give me any advice about these places? Weather, entertainment, living costs/apartment expensive?

I'm looking for relativly warm climate, and nice areas, but not high living expenses, since I will still be a full time student.

Anything will help!

If you choose Florida I would recommend northern Florida (Gainsville, Jacksonville, Tallahassee, etc). I have also heard some positive things about Ocala.

To answer your 3 questions:

1. Weather: North Florida has the best weather. Central Florida (Tampa and Orlando) and South Florida (Miami, Ft. Lauderdale) are too hot, too crowded, too expensive, and have too much crime.

2. Entertainment: Jacksonville would be your best bet in Northern Florida, however I think the crime rate there is high. Again, Tampa, Orlando, Miami have more entertainment options, however, the cons outweigh the pro's of living in these cities. (in my opinion).

3. Cost of Living/Apartments: I live in Tampa and I can tell you that apartment rents have increased substantially over the last few years and home prices have more than doubled the last 3-5 years.

Summary: If I had a choice today to attend graduate school somewhere in Florida I would choose UF (Gainsville). Gainsville is a nice college town, has nice weather, it's inexpensive to live there, and it's a safe city.

I don't prefer Georgia and I can't speak for the Carolinas although I have heard very good things about the Charlotte area ---- I recommend you check it out.

I recently moved to South Florida (Miami area), and I can say I love it here. The weather is absolutely gorgeous. It is never cold. If you move to South Carolina or Georgia or even Northern Florida, you will still have winters. It does get hot in the summer, but if you like hot weather, it is not too miserable, as it rarely gets above 90. It would be just as hot, if not more, in Georgia and South Carolina during the summer anyway.

There is also a lot to do around here. There are bars, clubs, beaches, shopping, etc.... You will never get bored, and the weather is always warm enough for enjoying any outdoor activity.

The housing costs in the area are pretty high, but I don't think they are worse than they would be in Atlanta, which you may be considering. North Florida has lower housing costs. However, if you are a student, you can either live on campus or find a roommate to lower your expenses.

South Florida has a lot of major schools (University of Miami, Florida International University, etc...). I think you should apply to schools in all of the areas you are considering and see where you get accepted before making any decisions. You may even get scholarships or assistantships at a few of the schools. So if you got free school in one area, that would certainly offset any higher costs of housing.

Don't move to the NC mountains. People there are miserable and they openly hate newcomers. Best places are: Greenville, Columbia, Charleston, SC. Savannah, GA. Miami, FL. Try Palm Beach, FL too. :-)

I live in SC, and it's not a lot to do except for Columbia and Charleston. In FL, it's hot, but there's more to do. SC and GA would be cheaper than FL.
