when i turn the key it clicks but wont turn over.plenty of power.any ideas besides going to a mechanic who'll charge me an arm and a leg??
I have it hooked up to a charger right now, and it's getting power, but it is still clicking when I try to turn it on.
i took out the old battery and hooked up a car battery and when i turn the key it clicks once and does nothing. i realise it was a car battery and not a truck battery. i also tried hitting the starter with a hammer and that didnt do anything...

If it's a ford, try replacing the starter solenoid usually mounted under the hood on the firewall close to the battery. If not then it does sound like a starter problem. Take off the starter and take it to your local auto parts store and ask them to test it. It should be a service free of charge.

ok you did a little old school there with the hammer...got to admire that...but sounds like you need a new starter...and car battery vs truck battery...no difference...change the starter...or if it's a ford...you may check the starter relay...this connects from the positive battery cable...good luck

Simple......if your battery as full voltage and the starter just "clicks"...either you have a bad ground or the starter is shot!
***problem is usually with the starter solenoid, but just as easy to replace the whole starter***

Make sure your battery connections are clean and tight. After that, if it still clicks then you need to replace the starter.

well if you banged on it with a hammer you have done what you can do now you need to replace some parts. you have a bad cylinode, I would get a full charge on the battery bang it on the cylinode a couple more times and if that doesnt work go to the part store.

what kind of truck?
how much power is AT the starter, must have 9.6 to turn over.
the starter could be bad, if it is a ford the is a starter solenoid could be bad.

i own a repair shop,,and your not getting a good connection somewhere,,it may be a bad ground on it,,or a loose positive wire somewhere,you,ll have to start looking at everything and sooner or later you,ll go right to the problem on it,,this is how i find some of the ones i repair,,good luck i hope this help,s.
