I am a 49 year old, fat guy, who is living on SSI, "I suffer from depression, and panic disorder". My illness is controlled by medication, to the point that, I returned to school, and was making good grades, untill I was sidelined by low back pain, "I have 2 disc that are as thich as dimes". But my mind is still sharp, I keep it that way by, trying to learn something new every day. But this isn't enough, I see my country in a dark place, The People no longer believe. Someone has to change this, and well, why not me? There are so many things that are broken,"but not so broken that they can't be fixed". If something isn't done soon, we will become a second rate nation. America has became a punch drunk, has been prize fighter, stumbling around the world, leaving a path of distruction everywhere we go. No one votes, no one seems to care. Am I alone in feeling this? Do you care? Is there anyone out there?

Having been a political activist, let me assure you it is easy in the US to become an activist.

First, research the issues so you will make sense. No, I don't mean memorize moveon.org's propaganda; it won't stand much scrutiny.

Get your facts on your topic, double check them, DO NOT MAKE MISTAKES!

Then, get some poster board, make signs that are accurate and to the point, and go walking in public areas.

Or, write letters to your local newspaper.

As I said, you can't make many mistakes or you will be totally discredited. Don't shoot from the hips. Check and double check.

Get a cheap way to print stuff. That might be a mimeograph machine, if they are still available. Make up small fact sheets, and pass them out in public places. Clean up the mess, and make sure you don't violate local ordinances.

Most of all, be prepared to work through frustration. It is very frustrating to be an activist, because almost never can you see real gains when you work alone. Being an activist is more for yourself than for anyone else; you do it because you must.

Sir, yes I do care very much. And you have already become a political activist by posting this question. You should be proud of yourself. I'm proud of you.

i have felt the same way and i came across robert f. kennedy's site for cleaning the water in new york...i think that writing him an email and explaining what you would like to do and ask him what would be a good first step for you to do might be what you need to get you going in the direction you want to go....good luck!!!!

I, seriously, get the same feelings that you mentioned.
I get over bad feelings by voting against Democrats.
I work hard for a living. And Democrats have been screwing me all my life.
But, I will fight them until death.
