Why are people gothic in the first place? I think gothism is a stage, it is obvious that in the endless attempt to be so "gothic" they are crying out for attention-just like the question. Also, in trying to be so different, they are actually the same as all the other cliches and labeled groups out there. Gothic people actually label themselves just as anyone else that follows a group, for example-cheerleaders, footballplayers, soccer, skaters etc...If you don't want to be labeled( Stop labeling yourself by placing yourself in that category)Stop wearing the make-up, white faces and black clothing. You don't stand out, you just look like everyother gothic person and there are millions in the world.

I think everyone gets judged to a point. I believe that maybe it's more noticeable since the group of goth ppl is so much smaller than "normal" ppl, therefore there are more ppl who don't understand. I think of it as a snobby cheerleader is going to feel about a goth just like a goth would feel about a snobby cheerleader. Neither one really understand the other.

Because gothics portray themselves as a certain image and want to be thought of in that image. Be independent! Don't be labelled. Far cooler than going with the flow...and believe me, goths aren't any less of a flow than a group of cheerleaders that all dress alike.

Why do people judge preps before they even know them? I was labeled snobby because I hung out with the "preppy" crowd. Labels will never stop existing. People will always judge everyone, no matter what.

The same reason Goths judge others before they even get to know them. Why do Goths dress and act in an outrageous and shocking manner, then complain when people react to them in an outraged and shocked manner?

Well, people who dress to a certain stereotype ask to be judged by the very image they project.

I agree, one should not be judged on their appearance, but when people's conceptual maps tell them otherwise, this is a hard thing to change

All in all, it isn't that bad of a thing. People in high school didn't mess with me as much because they thought I was some crazy satanist witch. Although some people have misconceptions about goths, overall it benefits me so I don't mind.

my motto is "label jars, not people." People tend to think that people's attitude is reflected in what they wear. That is totally not true. I know a bunch of guys who are goth and one wants to be a computer and electronics engineer. They are the sweetest bunch of guys that i know, and everyone flips out when i say hi to them, and they're all like, 'why are you friends with them? they're goth!' my only response to that is, 'so what?' That's what makes them unique and more interesting. people judge because they're narrow-minded and they are afraid of people who look different. It's downright wrong.
