I think it has to do with encouraging girls. Girls are not encouraged to be interested in dump trucks or science or any of the things that would lead to jobs like construction or military careers or things like that. We also need to be more accommating as a society towards women who want families. It's no problem for a career man to have kids, but a woman is expected to choose because she is expected to do all of the raising of the child. If men helped out their wives and girlfriends and workplaces had things like flextime, generous maternity/paternity leave, and daycare, more women would be able to work in the more male-dominated fields.
It really has nothing to do with women not wanting to do hard work. Women actually do the majority of the work in the world, especially the tedious, hard jobs.

Underrepresented? Who cares? There are some jobs better left to men. These dangerous jobs are some of them.

By exposing women, to all the possibilites, at age where she can make a more informed decision on the path her life will take.
Just knowing that there are so many wonderful things to choice from, and having the resources available to take advantage of those choices; would make all the difference in the world.

you can't, they only want equality up to the point where they make more money, but not to the point where they suffer any discomfort
