Only if they bring it to your car.

It is my understanding that most chain places including applebees and outback have a policy like this: when the order is called in, a server keys it into the micros system and is responsible for taking the money. Take out orders are including in their nightly tabulations. At places that don't have a 'pool tipping' policy, management automatically takes 12% of the total bills for the night, and taxes your tips based on that. So your carryout server is essentially penalized as far as taxes go, but most servers understand that the tips they would recieve bringing your dinner to your car would not rival the tip they would recieve after giving full table service to a customer. Most servers would probably appreciate any gratuity at all to offset the taxes.
In a nutshell, do offer your server a few bux and a thank you!

In most restaurants the server who is working the carry out is rotating thru that position for the night instead of being assigned tables, so yes a tip of some sort is appropriate.

Yeah, you should tip!!
Reason being, the person who actually took the time to put your order together was probably a server, who took time away from their tables to do your take-out order.
Places like these do not train the host staff well enough to know what is expected by the customer to be packed in the bags for your order. i.e. dressings, sides, condiments, extras ....
So the service staff are the ones who do it.
Hence taking time away from tables inside.
ALWAYS TIP , it's not going to break you,
and if it will, go grocery shopping and cook for yourself!!

you should tip. who do you think puts together all your food? granted, they don't make the food, but they do package it all up and put in all your condiments and what not. a 15% tip is not expected, but 10 % or a few dollars is adequate. besides, when you order from them again, they do remember who you are. you'd hate for something to be wrong the next time. and it wouldn't be accidental either.

i don't no because i only tip when i dine in so its all up to you, but if you do tip that is nice gesture . But i only tip for dine in moments i don't tip for no call in order and take out . I don't think the call in order taker person got a cramp for writing down the order. tip at your own jdgement don't tip out of guilt or being bullied but ppl in that line of work .

I would say no. What are they doing for you besides taking your money and giving you a sack of food? They aren't servicing you like they do inside, come and fill your drinks, getting condiments, etc. I would not tip for drive thru service. That would be like tipping at McDonald's drive thru.

Your not expected to tip, but the food didn't come from the kitchen to your hands all by itself.

I would not unless they bring it out to the car to you, in which case I would tip no more than 10%
