I wouldn't...Soon enough your baby will be in a toddler bed anyways. The reason I say to not remove it is because now that they are older, they like to crawl and get into all kinds of crazy positions, therefore they get their legs caught in the crib rails. The bumper helps prevent them from doing this.
To the person who posted above me: I know they are a pain, but they do protect the child from hanging their legs out of the crib. If they get their leg stuck in the crib rails, they can twist their leg. So you do what you want, but I would stay on the side of safety!

I would say never. Only because my parents took the bumper out of my little sisters crib and she got her leg stuck in between the rails while trying to escape and broke her leg right in the middle. She was only 1 year old and now shes 7 and has constant pain in her leg when and if she plays too hard outside or where ever. It broke my heart to watch her limp around and drag her leg around in a cast that was practically up to her stomach. But she did get around just fine and we had just as much trouble keeping up wit hher in that cast than without the cast. i personally have one for my 8 month-old son and it has actually kept him from knocking his head into the side of the crib SO many times. Hope this helps!

Assuming your child can pull up, you should have had it out of there ages ago. In fact, I remove the bumpers from the crib as soon as my babies can move around in their sleep because of SIDS. It's not only a risk factor for smothering but also it can be used as a step for ambitious babies to climb/fall out of the crib.

I would wait. My son is 1, and now he jumps up and down in the crib and I am glad I left the bumpers up/

I would leave them in also, I know they say "they help cause SIDS", I think that is meant for the little babies, a older baby can move away from the pad easy enough! Anyway, I think they are better for the older kids, I had a friends who's baby got there leg caught in a rail and got hurt really bad. Also, I know from my own baby (10 mths), how much tossing and turning is done at night, I could imagine how many times he bumps his head off the pads. I would keep them until the toddler bed!

OMG, those things are a pain in the butt (the bumpers, not the baby). You can take them out right now. Really, you don't even need them from the start. It's a scam, like so many others, by the baby industry.

I was told as soon as he/she starts standing-that there's a risk of standing on it and hoisting out of the crib and hurting his self if he falls.

Well when I had my last child 18 months ago I was told NOT to use them at all as it can cause SIDS so if I was you I would take them off like right now

you don't really need them at all. If you want to remove it go ahead. Otherwise, when they start using it to climb with then it's definitely time to remove it.
