These are old movies but not rated R
Something Wicked this way Comes
Watcher in the Woods
They are non traditional movies and while they are a bit scary, they are not gory and not rated R. One has Bette Davis in it.

Young Frankenstein is hilarious. I think it may be rated R for sexual innuendo. Overall, it's fairly tame. There are a lot of references to the original Frankenstein and the actors do Mel Brooks proud!
If you want, you can show the old time horror movies from the 30s and 40s. They are probably PG13 if they are that. Check a few out from the library and see what you think. Frankenstein (Boris Karloff, I think). The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Lon Chaney)- it's not really a horror flick, but it's well done.
Vincent Price did some horror movies, too- based on the short stories of Edgar Allen Poe. He also did The Fly.
You could have some fun watching the old movies and comparing them to how they are done today.
Have a great party!

"The Birds" is a horror film that isn't rated R or gory. It was very scary when I watched it in the 1960s, but by today's standards, it is mild. It's a classic film that you can rent at your local video store (call first).

The Frighteners starring Michael J. Fox, directed by Bob Zemekis, might be a very good choice. Kinda scary, VERY FUNNY, it's a good pick for your age group.

Do a Hitchcock night--they're all creepy (or funny, depending on your mood) and they should all be acceptable for the "no-R-ratings" crowd.
