I have been a huge Nirvana fan since I was a teen... is it as weird as names like Apple and Moses?

I don't know if it's weird, but it might be embarassing for the child when they get older. With all the mean that goes with playground or sandbox politiics, you don't want the kids to have a obvious way to pick on them. I always envisioned myself having triplet girls, and naming them "Adrienne", "Algeronne" and "Annika". If you wanted to name them something, may I suggest Mira, as a variance of "Mir", which like Nirvana, also can mean "peace". Don't name the child something too fancy, or else they may end up changing it when they get older. There has to be another reason for liking the name besides just liking the band Nirvana -- remember that Kurt Cobain killed himself, and they might tease your poor daughter about how weird they think you are. I am not begrudging your liking Nirvana, I just feel for how other kids who don't understand may perceive it. It's not quite as weird, though, as the poor British boy who was named "Bottled Beer".

I think it is pretty, but I think you should understand the meaning of the word Nirvana as well instead of just naming her after the band, because the word Nirvana has a really beautiful meaning behind it and it would be a shame for her not to also understand the meaning of the word in addition to knowing about the music you love.

I think it's a common enough word and a pretty one and wouldn't sound weird as a name.

I think Nirvana is a pretty name, but the fact that the first thing people will think about the band, so it my be horrible for her. If it wasn't associated with a band I would like it!

It's a sweet name. I do like it.
But remember the child has to live with this for the rest of their lives.
Maybe you could have Nirvana as the middle name?
(My partner wants our baby to have the first name of Trinidad, but I put my foot down and said we may have it as the middle name...)
Good Luck!

No I think it is unique and everyone can perceive it in a different way and that makes it fun. Do what you want to do, I think everyone is named for a reason and if that is what u like the most then it is meant to be!!

Yea, but a baby girl? That sounds terrible for a girl OR a boy. You better rethink that one. Its worse than those others.

just think of the repercussions on the child, it may be cute now but she may not like it when she gets older. I'm a fan of "different" names.

these days it seems no name is off limits !! I would think about your child as they grow up, you dont have to live with the name being yours for the rest of your life. I would think about it from that angle. Good luck :)
p.s. If you must, i would wait till you have boy for that name........
