Find out from the hotel--the pool may be heated.

The Phoenix Zoo has a really fun kid area with petting zoo...Paradise Valley Mall and Arrowhead Mall both have indoor play places for toddlers (free)...The weather will be great, my two year old loves to go for walks in the stroller or walk on her own with me. Try Dreamy Draw Park at Northern and Highway 51. It is part of the Phoenix Mountain Preserve and has a paved trail that is good for strollers--the desert scenery is super...McCormick Train Park in Scottsdale has a train ride and a merry-go-round along with model trains and a lot of places to run and play...Depending on where you are staying, your consierge can probably help you with DVDs for your room, kid-friendly restaurants, and nearby activities...The main branch of the Phoenix Public Library has a nice kids area with a toddler area that has tons of board books and things to touch, listen, etc. They also have an outside area so if the weather is fair, you can go outside to read...There are lots of public parks including Tempe Town Lake...I haven't taken my daughter to one but there are places like Jungle Jim's that you pay to go in and there are all sorts of activities for kids.....

OK, that's all my brain can come up with right now. Good luck! :)

There are a ton of things that time of year to do and I think weather will be quite beautiful depending on what your idea of warm is :)

I think that the zoo does night lights that time of year, but there is a better zoo to see if you have a rental car. It is called the Wildlife World Zoo and they have an AMAZING collection of animals. You can feed parrots and also giraffes at this zoo, making it all the more special. There are food vendors as well as a very cute petting zoo and rides. Definitely one up on the Phoenix Zoo.

There is Rawhide wild west park, It is a great place to go to walk through a mock wild western town. They have shows, shops and all kinds of odd actors (I hope their actors haha) running around.

I would also check azcentral.com for festivals. During the winter there are a lot of fun festivals in the area.

I hope that you have a great time when visiting. There is much to do and azcentral can give you some great ideas on planning.

There are some wonderful suggestion above, I just wanted to add that in January they will probably still have Zoo Lights up at the Phoenix Zoo during the early part of the month. Essentially the zoo stays open into the evening and there are millions of holiday lights. It really is unique.

How big is he? Enchanted Island at Encanto Park is also fun for kids but best for those 36-48 inches. If he likes trains, there is McCormick Stillman railroad park in Scottsdale. There are a couple of indoor miniature play villages, Kids Town in Tempe (smaller size) and Imagination Avenue in N-Phx (full kid size buildings). He would love these places. If he is not timid and likes to climb, you might try Makatu's Island in Ahwatukee which is a giant indoor playground the kids LOVE and it is totally access controlled so you can relax and not have to follow him everywhere.

Phoenix Zoo is OK but nothing great compared to other city zoos. They do have a petting zoo area and a treehouse playground but I remember my daughter getting stepped on a lot at that age by the older kids.

If you want to make a day trip North of Phoenix, there is Out of Africa about an hour or so out of town and the Deer Farm outside of Williams (about 1.5 hours South of the Grand Canyon, excellent place). If you go to the Grand Canyon, make a stop at Flintstone's Bedrock City at the junction of US80 & SR64 in the town of Valle.

The people above me gave some really great suggestions. I just wanted to add one more thing. At the resort I work at, we allow guests to swim at the pool during the winter. People from a colder climate usually come to Arizona and it's not that cold for them so they go lay out by the pool and take a dive. Plus, if they have a jacuzzi at the resort you're going to stay at, that is even better.

Good Luck!
