The combination of being uneducated and arrogant is a horrible thing. A person who is one or the other can be pitied, but unfortunately most americans are both.
The average (US) american is completely convinced that they live in the best society in the world, yet have never been outside the country. The majority of the few that do go out spend most of their time making silly comparisons about every aspect of life and how it is "better" in the US.
Nothing is "better" in the US, just different. Americans need to not only get a broader view of the world, but they also need to accept that they are not the most superior society the planet has ever seen. It also wouldn't hurt if a few more people would speak foreign languages.

I don't think Americans are 'hated', everyone is human, I believe that Bush is an arrogant prick, and Americans in the USA know almost nothing about the outside world unless they are EXPATS. For this reason, they maybe go on holiday without really being able to blend in with different cultures, and try to make up for it by being slightly louder and brasher than normal. It's a sort of insecurity which brings out the worst in people, but they are no different from, say, an englishman who goes to Spain for the first time, and adds the letter 'O' to every word, believing that the locals will then understand him.
Take heart dear boy and spend more time listening to others and watching peoples' behaviour wherever you are, you'll then fit in slowly.

America (rather than Americans) is hated because it is always invading other countries. It has attacked about 15 countries in the last 30 years. No other country comes close to this. America is a bully in the international arena, and most Americans are very ignorant about the full extent of its interference.

Mainly because Americans tend to be culturally ignorant, arrogant, uneducated (generally) and without even the most basic respect for others.
Now, of course there are exceptions to the rule....but that's the image of Americans that's held true since the 80's....
and sadly, largely they're right to assume those things.

I think mainly because of our government. A lot of people think that all Americans agree with our president and his views.

I accept as true with McCain. end sending billions of greenbacks to scum bag countries that detest you. It in simple terms would not make sense. Edit: ok, no count if it rather is sensible to you, then I hate liberals, liberals deliver me money.
