Tricks To Stop Biting

Keep an emery board handy so when you need it, it's available. If its not, it is going to be your teeth that take care of the nail, and you know what that means.

Better yet, try spending a few minutes every day caring for your nails. This could be a massage, oiling your cuticles, applying polish... whatever works.

Keep the nails polished. For some reason, a little polish seems to make you want to leave them alone. And did you know that even short nails can wear red polish. It's true and what's even better, men seem to love it!

If you find your fingers moving toward your mouth all on their own, you might want to invest in a bottle of anti-bite liquids. Trust me, it does taste horrid.

As a previous nail biter, I sometimes find that I fall back into old habits. But, it seems that if I have something to keep my hands occupied, my nails are safe. A stress ball works for me.

There is nothing worse than trying to grow out your nails just to have them break or peel. Here is a tip I heard a little while ago. It involves rubbing raw garlic over the surface of your nails. After a week, nails should be stronger. Definitely worth a try if you don't mind the smell.

I'm a Nail Tech so this is my speciallity!!! People come in with very bad bitten nails and ask how to stop all the time. I suggest acrylic nails. Go to your salon ask for a full set, and tell them you want them pretty short. Like just barely over the tip of your finger. You won't be able to bite the acrylic, well you can try but it won't do anything. Then in about two weeks go back in and get a fill if you need it, you'll know when you do. Then in about a month you can take the acrylic off by soaking them off with acetone. And you have preety nails!!!! Pretty Natural nails. Then if you still need help keep getting acrylic nails or maybe even silk wrap nails.

I used to have the same problem!

Try to rub alcohal (or nail polish remover) onto your nails. If you bite them, then they taste and smell horrible. Lemon juice worked for me.

Don't do this at school or you'll look like an idiot. When I got back home, I would put tape over my fingers. And wear them until I need to go to school. Yeah, wear them at night, even when asleep. Some people unconciously bite their nails I think. Or if you can't sleep, you might bite your nails too.

This can also be under stress so don't listen to music when you go to bed. You can listen to instrumental but only that. Then maybe you can read and eat fruit or a decent chocolate bar. Then brushing and sleep well. Taking a hot bath or shower can also help.

Oh, and try not to put your hands on your cheeks or you might be tempted to bite them.

Good luck on your nails!

I bit my nails when I was younger and this is how I got out of the habit.

Wear gloves as long as you possibly can. You can't bite your nails through the gloves.

Or paint your nails with nail polish. Every time you go to bite them, you will be eating the nail polish and when you think that, you'll think twice about biting.

These worked for me and they'll probably work for you.

I bit my nails for over 20 years. Then I just stopped and now I have nails long and nicer than most peoples. It takes will power, but every time you find yourself wanting to bite, just think about how dirty and gross it is! It took me like 4 months to grow them out pretty long. After a while you won't even try to bite them anymore, Good luck!

I used to bite my nails until they bled. Then I worked out a system to stop. Firstly bite all your nails except one...grow that one out and keep it trimmed. Then bite all except two...then 3 ..then 4...etc etc By the time you have grown them all out and bought nail polish and painted them etc you wont want to bite them any more. Or if you are a guy keep them manicured. If you break one file it straight away..never bite it or you may start again.

If u have access to a microscope, scoop some nail waste out put it under, and u will not anymore. SO Nasty! Good luck, one more thing, our hands are a big reflection of how we take care of ourselves. And there's bitter nail polishes, that may help.
