Black folks communicated through community sings and rural farm hands gathered to pass songs along. Most were spiritual in nature. It was a way to socialize too. Then the songs were also sung in church. Some were in native or localized or regional tongue so words were mostly understood or mixed & passed along that way. Almost none were in a written form.'
