I would hope this will be a common practice amoung western doctors in the near future, and I don't think he is a quack. I very highly believe in eastern medicine, Meditating, Chiropractics, Stretching, and taking vitamins and herbs instead of today's prescribed drugs. They are more relaxing, medicinal, and better for us; at least in my opinion. Meditation is something you might want to try out. In a quiet room, or with soft music such as piano, violin, or even some of the softer classics. I listen to Water music .Another idea is to listen to recordings of the wind, waves on a lake/ocean, night sounds. They are very relaxing also.

What the doctor told you is true, headaches are related to stress but they can also cause stress. I'm a nurse practitioner and I have never heard an MD prescribe meditation by itself for newly occuring headaches. If these headaches are truly interrupting your life I would get a second opinion. There are many options out there to help with the pain these are causing. With that said, reducing your stress level by any means will help prevent future headaches.

Home Remedy Headache Cures:

There are many cures for headaches first figure what type and what caused it.

If your stressed and have tension. Massage two drops of peppermint oil (avail at healthfood stores) on your temples. Also relax in a hot bubble bath while drinking a cup of peppermint tea.

Morning headaches are from the air not properly circulating while you sleep.

Weekend headaches are usually caused by lack of coffee that most people typically drink during the work week. Keep with the same cycles throughout the week.

Pounding headaches come from bottled stress this is hard to get rid of so find a way to let it out and help yourself relax. Spa therapy helps me.

Migrain cures- put feet in hot water and ice pack on head or neck to help reduce pain.

Good Luck.

It is the best therapy for stress headaches,Also there is over the counter stress pain relievers that help.I too suffer from stress headaches and it is hard to think or function if you are having one.I also suffer from migraines, but they are alot different from stress headaches.Excedrin produces a good effective over the counter pain reliever that helps. The reason the doctor did not prescribe a narcotic pain reliever is b/c they do not work effectively on stress headaches. If you feel there is something the doctor may have overlooked inadvertently, then go for a second opinion.A Neurologist can help with your headaches. They can prescribe something like Inderal to take once a day to help with relief. But you are eventually going to have to find the source of the stress and get rid of it.

He could be very right that you are having stress headaches. Has something changed in your life in the past month that is stressing you. Meditation is VERY good for the mind and body even for someone not having headaches. Just try it out but be open minded about it!!! you have to actually relax and do it right,

Yep it's normal..cuz if u have stress headache, then that means that there's nothing wrong with u clinically, it's just stress & tension that's giving u that headache.

this type of headache, usually is not relieved by pain killers, all u need is to relax and reduce stress .. and meditation can help u do so .. that's why he told u to meditate .. so no worries ..

hope u feel better soon..

Good luck

Your Dr. is ahead of the curve & sounds like he has his patient's best interest at heart.

Any book by Eric Harrison will help. He teaches meditation as a life skill that can be done throughout the day as well as in the morning & evening. FLIP THE SWITCH is my favorite but the ones I've read are all good.

If you put "HOW TO MEDITATE" into a search engine you'll get an avalanch of hits.

Good luck!

It's good to see that a doctor is turning to alternative therapies. This does not make him a quack by any means, actually to the contrary. Most doctors prescribe drugs with such harmful side effects just because the more they prescibe the more $ they make. The pharmaceutical industry is making billions while killing people. THank God you found a doctor that is not trying to profit off of your headaches. Meditation with yoga is excellent. Also drink lots and lots of purified water with lemon.

He is right, you should also try yoga to help stretch out the muscles in your back and shoulders as well as make your neck muscles stronger. Most of the headaches everyone gets is from bad posture related to stress. Do you ever hear the saying get your shoulders out of your ears try to practice keeping your shoulders back and down and your chest up. It feels weird but that is correct posture.
Also you should try Massage Therapy, there are many headache relief therapies out there, just find a therapist who is trained in accupressure, shiatsu or deep tissue. Sorry don't mean to sound like a know it all but it has helped me out and my clients tremendously.

doesnt seem normal for a doc to perscribe meditation, but i have to say i am happy to hear you say that. usually they are so quick to hand out a perscription and you never get to the root of the problem. maybe you can find some guided meditation cd or book at the library that can help you figure out why you have the headaches and how to get rid of them. maybe it is a symptom of something that you should be paying attention to!! feel better!
