This causes it to freeze and cease booting. Booting up just now took 4 tries. I first tried many antivirus and antispyware programs, none of which found anything. I tried a system restore to before the problem began which also did not help. Reformatting the hard drive did not help either. So I have concluded that it must be a hardware problem. Is it the power supply, the motherboard, or something else?

I don't know but a few months ago I lost my hard drive. I would suggest very strongly to you, that before you get out of windows again, you go get another drive and back it all up.

Sounds like you have a crash coming. Best do it before you lose everything like I did.

Sound like the power regulator on the Motherboard has gone bad. Is it possible to have a more experienced person look at it? Don`t have a friend look at it unless you know for certain that they really are knowledgeable and are honest. I have had to correct a lot of others mistake after the fact.

Have you checked your HD for errors? If theres a corrupt area it would mess up any data located there which could cause your computer not to boot correctly.
