Tom's Hardware has an article that talk about how to build your own dream laptop. For sure you are not going to save any money this way.

It contain info of where you can buy the parts and does it really make sense to build your own laptop, and other info.

And you have to remember the laptop components are so small, the motherboard, case, screen are mostly integrated together. Which means you don't really buy laptop motherboard, case, screen separately. It is more like buying a bare-bones laptop and build with that.

Unfortunately, custom-build parts for laptops are not as available as for desktops. There are a few vendors out there who will provide the parts. There was an article in Maximum PC not too long ago on this very subject. Check their website, maximumpc.com and see if the article is on the web.

of course its possible, the question is, is it worth it
and no, its probably not worth it to build your own laptop, professionals spend much time trying to figure out the best way to fit these pieces together

No
The only way to get one with your specs that you want is to order a notebook from the web and select the options you are looking for.

My brother had a friend who made his own computer, so I'm sure it's possible, but it may be challenging

You can but it really is not worth it. First of all, finding parts is hard and it is not cost beneficial.
