Why has pedophilia become so prominent this day and age?

Kubrick, I don't dislike pedophiles. It's okay if you are, just as long as you're not hurting anyone. I just hate the ones who rape and murder little children.

Well first of all, the molestors are just getting more publicity because of the internet.
And second of all, not all pedophiles are rapists or molesters. Some people could control their attraction some can't. I try control my attraction as much as possible, I'm only 16 though. But how I would treat a young girl is no different how a romantic type would treat a woman his own age.
It's not a disease. Society is too ignorant to reconize that pedophilia is just normal. (Joesph in his 20s and Mary 14?) I don't know why society hates us. I mean if you always hear people raping woman their own age, would you prohibit people loving each other their own age too. And yes, their are some children that can consent, people can mature as fast as their environment can make it.

This crime was so sinister and repugnant that for a long time no one talked about it. Society today has become more open, and of course the scandal about Catholic priests molesting boys made headlines everywhere. States now have websites that list sexual offenders by city or town.
Pedophilia is no more common that it ever was, it just receives more publicity. It's a disease that crosses all lines - income, class, education. So far there is no cure. Sadly, people sometimes confuse pedophilia with homosexuality. Pedophiles are not gay. Their sickness is that they are attracted sexually to children. Gays, on the other hand, relate to other consenting adults.

THE INTERNET!!!!! I have seen so many specials about it lately as well. Oprah recently did another show about it and she spoke to a few people who have been trying to catch these sick men. I'll attach the link to that show.
Personally I feel it is the Internet....it can be difficult to regulate, these men have an anonymous way of viewing these things, and it just feeds their sick perversions. It MAKES ME SO ANGRY I WANT TO SCREAM!!!! I would rather someone turn off the Internet for the entire world, and for the rest of time, if it meant it could stop all the pedophiles from communicating with each other and fueling this sick addiction. These men seriously have mental problems (not being rude), like serious psychological problems, and I wish they would all STOP BEING PERVERTADLY SELFISH, seek counseling so they do not continue to damage these children and families. Sorry, it just makes me so mad. But to answer your question, I believe it is the Internet.There have always been pedophiles but I feel the Internet has fueled the problem.

I think its existed for as long as men have sinned....and the world in which we live suddenly cares about these kids instead of making them live with it in silence like societies of yesterday.
but at the same time, with the growing saturation of sex etc throughout society, and people not growing up with morals/basic self-control, I personally feel it's gotten worse.
