Every time I attempt to convert, I can only get about 3 minutes of video. Any hints? I did free up about 6 GB oh hard drive space, I'm hoping that will help.

It will take 15 gigabyte to capture about 60 minutes of Video from your Camera.
Once you have captured the video in AVI format, you must then use a converter to convert the avi file to DVD formatable filas for burning a DVD.

I spent hours and hours working on this and after too many headaches I went out and bought a DVD recorder for my TV. I can now take my Camera, hook into the DVD recorder and record my Video tapes directly on to a blank DVD. The DVD recorder will even create menus etc.

6 GB is not enough space. Get an extra hard drive to store your files copied from the camcorder and to convert to the dvd format. Should get at least a 200 GB hard drive.

You can download AVI Divx Mpeg to DVD conversion Software for free or buy Sonic MyDVD software. Or you can create a data disk out of a DVD. Some DVD player will let you play the file on the TV. I have used all three with success.

Freeing up disk space is important as the video takes up a lot of room. I assume you have your camera plugged in via usb or firewire. You'll need some sort of dvd creation software, like Ulead or Pinnacle Studio. It sound like you have the import process working to some extent. Once you have the video imported, you can add sound, titles, menu's etc. or you can just burn it to dvd.
Good luck!
