talk to your guidance or career counselor and ask them if you can take a career test. this might provide some direction for you. also, research colleges using rankings from US news and world report fro starters but realize that they are not set in stone. this should provide some good ideas though. once you have a vague idea of what you want to do, find a college that is good in that by investigating them and talking with your guidance counselor at your high school. you also might want to try looking at instate colleges that have good tuition rates for residents if your not sure what you want to do. i was in the same position not long ago, but it's not THAT hard, just stick with it and you should be fine. hope this helps, good luck.

UCSD or SDSU or maybe USD or one of the other fine colleges here in San Diego and the reasons are:
1) They are great schools
2) You can pick from just about any major under the sun
3) It's SAN DIEGO, DUH!
4) You can get to know me!
Seriously, you have to consider:
MAJOR - and for that you need to know what you want to do with your life
COST - can you afford it? What's your budget?
LOCATION - where do YOU want to go to school? San Diego is still the best, but for other reasons you may reject it.
PRESTIGE - Places like Harvard, Yale, etc, tend to open certain doors once you've gone to them.
SPECIALTY - if you want to become an actor or a musician or a director (or other things) there are certain schools that are better known for or are recognized for being the best for that given profession.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS - some schools discriminate based on grade point average, others on standardized testing, still others on race, etc. Of course, they call it "affirmative action" usually but it's just another form of discrimination in the end, no matter how they try to candy-coat it to make themselves feel like they're doing something good or important.
I would say from your message that you have not decided what you want to be/do. Really that can be decided later - you will have a lot of lower level general ed things to get done, but the sooner you figure it the better.
Finally, don't just apply to one school. Apply to several. That way if some turn you down, others may not and you will still have a few choices.
Oh, and reading the others who've since answered, sugar C has it almost - in Ohio you can attend the SECOND BEST parties maybe - the best are in SAN DIEGO (although I saw some good ones in Miami and New Orleans and Denver so Ohio might be a distant 5th actually).

It can be really difficult to choose a college especially when you don't know your major! But don't worry a lot of people already in college are still unsure of what to major in or what they want to do with their lives. Even still I would say about 80-90% of people in college have changed their major at some point since enrolling!!! Don't stress you'll figure it out eventually!! Plus once you are in college you have a good 2 years before you really need to have it figured out - before then you have general education requirements that need to be fulfilled like history, english, science etc. In the meantime I would suggest visiting the different colleges that you are interested in. Most universities offer campus tours that let you get the feel for the area. If you want to go out of state maybe plan a road trip and stay for a weekend so you get a feel for the area and the school. Hope this helps and good luck with college - it really is a great time!! ~Jenn

For me, it was easy. When I was going through the avalanche of brochures, one grabbed me and wouldn't let go. I went there and had a great experience.
It's not always that easy. First, think about what you might like to do. Don't worry if you're not that specific, but some schools have better math departments, or literature departments, or whatever than other schools. How far from home do you want to go? Any part of the country you favor? Urban or rural? How big do you want your school to be? Try talking to your advisor to help narrow it down. Pick a few places and visit if you can.
Also, don't neglect your gut instincts. It worked out really well for me, and, with so many colleges and universities out there, it may really be the only way you can narrow it down. And sometimes your gut may be telling you things that your brain hasn't quite caught up on. For instance, maybe diversity's important to you, and you saw, but didn't really notice, that all of the minorities in the brochure are the same guy.

honestly, your friends either probably aren't sure what they want to do or were very lucky to have an easy choice. picking a school and a major are pretty big decisions, and it can take a long time for someone to sort out the best options. talk to school counselors, apply to several schools, take tours of their campuses, weigh all the pros and cons. lots of people even change colleges a couple years in because they change their minds. not having it figured out right away is nothing to sweat over, because most people really are in your situation.

go to fastweb.com they let you choose different subjects as your major and choose the different college. once you're in college it really doesn't matter i was undeclared for a long time. the advisors and friends are really cool in college. choose a subject tat you are interested in it so much and that will give you a good job. if you can't think of any and are still confused find something that it doesn't matter if you choose it or not but will give you a good job.
