What brands work best, as I've heard many rodents can trigger the lights.

Hi, there are many brands out there and all are very simple to install. If you haven't ever installed any I would recommend going to your local hardware store and talking with someone there. There is sensistivity settings on them that you can set as to how long, when and at what height they will turn on. Typically most people hook them up to the existing outside lights however you can install a dual light switch and and drill a hole on the exterior wall and run your wires down to the switch. If your not sure on installing them yourself you can hire a contractor to install them for you also. Good luck

I agree with the two above that you should have a licensed electrician do the install. I do believe part of your question was about the rodents trigger your lights. Motion sensors can be set for different levels of sensitivity. Depending on where you install the light fixture (let's assume on the outside corner of your garage) and you've aimed the motion sensor directly on the ground at a sensitive level...anything, even a rodent could set it off. I'd try to aim it so that it will trigger anything taller that 3 feet. You might have to play with the sensor once you get it installed. Adust it and then walk by as see if it triggers where you want it to.
Also keep in mind that when you do security lighting around your home, don't have light shining into your windows. I see this a lot. People think they are accenting their house, but what they are really doing is allowing others to see in when they can't see out.

for best results; hire a licensed electrical contractor. he has commercial liabilty insurance . he has to warranty his work for a year. he has the expertise and knowledge. YOU DONT have any of the above mentioned things. or just risk burning your house to the ground, and your homeowner's insurance wont cover your fire
