i have an lcd tv and just wanna record network tv can i used tivo for that or do i have to subscribe to the service?

Look for a DVR box that just supports regular Local Network TV. Tivo is specific to DirecTV. Dish Network has their own DVR as well. So its just specific to each provider. Not quite sure which one would work. But a DirecTV DVR i found required DirecTV Activation within 30 days, not sure if you can just by pass it or not.

you can get DVR(tivo) on satellite and cable.

if you have satellite call the company and inquire about DVR (pause,rewind,and record TV)

i hear that it doesnt matter as long as its pluged into a phone line
that means tha t you can use it timt an antenna cable satlite (maby even closed circut but it would be cheaper to get a diffrent dvr)
