I feel you. I want to go myself. Maybe we could start some sort of lottery. Am I correct in assumeing that you are upset because she is not qualified to work on anything? On the bright side she had to pay a whole bunch of money to go.

SOME, not all of Those with the money control or try to control those who don't. Sweet-Sin WOW do you feel guilty about something? That seems a little harsh.
Well I guess the tax dollar issue is solved. I thank the person who asked this for having, so far, the only logical answer to my question / comment about the actions of yahoo removing a really out of line question. Folks, read what you are commenting about. Some of the responses to my question / comment referred to above makes no sense.
Sorry.
Back to the question - I also said to myself MUST BE NICE. But I see no over abuse of taxes. No more then normal. LOL!
This is something I made up. Might find it funny
in a local paper
The Sheriff's office has announced that in an effort to save money the free 12 step program has now been reduced to just 5 major steps. This now clears the way for funding two more DUI units for the county.
Think of the number of cheeseburgers that would buy. Gotta go suddenly I am hungry. Irma gonna sneak across the ally and see what i can scare up outta the dumpster for grub.

Well, the rich lady bought a ticket to go...and the Russian are the ones who offered it, although I suppose NASA could block it if they wanted to, but then they possibly lose them as a partner building it.
As far as why your tax dollars are being spent there, I can't really say my full opinion here...but let's just say it could be worse considering all the other things our tax dollars are also used for...I'll take the ISS any day of the week over that stuff.
Clear Skies!

Some of the experiments on the space station go toward medical research (I couldn't tell you what exactly) And the sooner we finish building that thing, the sooner we can really crank up our civilian space program and give our economy a HUGE boost.
As for the rich chick, she did have to shell out 20 million to do it, so it's not as if she got to do it for free.

Your tax dollars go to the US contribution towards the station.
But it's an INTERNATIONAL space station - the space tourist negociated a deal with the Russian Federal Space Agency, who have used this arrangement before to help pay for their contribution. (I'm sure you know that Russia is a financial basket case.)

I suppose they could have told her she is not allowed to go and then collected another $20 million from the tax payers to make up for the loss of revenue. I bet most tax payers wouldn't like that though.

Because she probably paid millions to do it. $20,000,000 I believe. Her fees then subsidise the space station and the building of it somewhat so it is actually a relief on your taxes.
