He cares, but he has an addiction. It isnt easy to quit. My hubby and I are both smokers and we want to quit, but we're struggling. Help him as much as you can, tell him positive things, dont nag him. Suggest something like the patch. Support him. Give him a chance, it wont happen overnight.

I had the same problem with my boyfriend.. he smoked two packs a day and it killed me. But, you have to be firm. VERY firm. And also understanding... it is very hard to quit smoking. Nicotine is even more addictive than most gateway drugs.

I really respect you and the fact that you know that you, or your newborn baby should not have to deal with and be infected by his secondhand smoke, and you know that he needs to stop.

With Andrew, he would promise to stop (ended up lying and doing it behind my back) But after putting my foot down and going through several arguments and such... after telling him how bad it hurt me, he started to quit. The best way to quit is just to simply stop cold turkey. Because weening yourself little by little just makes you want to say what the heck, what's one more cig? Nicotine patches and gum are good though.

Encourage him.

He DOES care what you want.. Andrew cares SO much and is the greatest guy in the world- it's just that his body craves the nicotine.

Good luck sweetheart!

You know I hear you! My husband and I have had some really bad arguments about him giving up smoking.

In the end he has but it took a lot of encouragement and pointing out the negatives - wasting money, bad for your health, smells etc. Sometimes i would go to kiss him and smell the smoke and just say "Yuk, you smell like smoke".

But mostly be encouraging. Try and find out why he keeps smoking (eg stress at work, unhappy for some reason) and what he is scared of with quitting.

You cant force him to give up but you can encourage him. Sometimes guys will just think you are nagging and will not do what we want for that reason. Try a different approach.

Good luck

Tell him you can not control if he smokes but you do not want him smoking around you, in your home/car or around your baby. Once the pressure of quiting is gone he may choose to stop on his own. Even if he doesn't you will not have to deal with this habit because he will not be doing it around you.

if this is your only problem with the father of your child then girl get over him you cant just quit smoking over night that is some hard **** to do. just tell him to smoke outside away from you so that you dont have to inhale theh smoke but harass the man to the point that it causes friction in your relationship he can only give it up when he is truly ready and the time may not be now

well its and addiction , try getting him some nicorette gum and plus he has to want o quit , and if he doesn't make him go outside and smoke , my father in law has been smoking for years my husband has asthma from all that crap it harms the entire family he comes from a family of smokers on his fathers side . now his moms side don't smoke but the affects of my father in laws smoking is noticeable with the family . he refuses to quit so my mother in law makes him smoke in the garage when its hot in the summer and freezing in the winter. if your mate feels his 5dollar cigs are important tell him do it outside or get him from a smokers addiction group. he cares about you but just like any addiction they care only about themselves and getting that nicotine fix. I'll pray for you that he'll stop and i hope he does cus my aunt died of cancer and my uncle has MS and he has smoked for years and still smokes because it helps his MS pain i feel that defeats the purpose but your dealing with a person with a nicotine addiction

He probably cares but smoking is an addictive habit that is hard for anyone to break. So do not push him and let him to it on his own.

He will only stop when he wants to. You can't make him. Don't let him smoke around your baby

Dip his cigarettes in gasoline, then he'll think twice before "lighting up!" It works wonders, or just find his cigs and fill the pack with water. Make sure he doesn't have money to buy more cigs. If he lights up around you , start gagging and coughing as loud and hard as you can in his face, and go get air freshener and spray it all over him in ANY company.

its not easy to stop smoking when your body is addicted to nicotine perhaps you may want to invest in taking him for a patch or some other nicotine addiction cure
