Hey - i am 40 in 4 weeks also - would love for someone to book me in for some pampering - be it massage or manicure or a complete makeover would be better.
Any luxury treatment would be good to make me forget that I am about to be 40 hee hee.
You could always arange a surprise party!!!
hope you get it right!!

Those are all great suggestions!
If she is a garden nut, you could buy her a year's membership in the New York Horticultural Society. When spring rolls around she will be able to get discounted tickets to one of the largest flower shows in the country because her nice sister gave her a membership in the Society! I went to "google" and found their web site for you:
www.hsny.org
This is really a gift that keeps on giving because during the whole year they offer all sorts of workshops and classes to gardeners.
Or, you could hire a "Chippendale" stripper for a party. Covered in chocolate, of course. We "older ladies" LOVE chocolate, you know.
Either way, have fun and bless you for being a good sister and thinking of your sibling on her birthday.
Happy Birthday to your sister from me.

If your sister is a gardener then as a fellow gardener I'm sure she would love some type of garden ornament or solar lights for her garden. Thats a great idea. Here are a few USA garden ornament sites you can order from then and have them ship to her

Maybe a garden magazine this is a gift that keeps giving for the whole year. Some good ones are
Birds and Blooms my favorite

Fine Gardening another good one

Have family living in the States and saved myself a lot of trouble and money over the years with buying them presents on line. Most US firms will not accept credit card payments from outside the US, but these two sites do:
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/
http://www.amazon.com/
If you are registered with Amazon UK, you don't even need to register with the .com one again. They sell a lot of products, including toys, garden stuff etc.
Both will wrap your present up and deliver in time, you can track the parcels and know exactly when it has been delivered.
Wish your sister a happy birthday from me!

ebay, they have almost everything, and most often the seller will ship it right to her, if you ask, and make sure you tell them it is a gift, and not to include the invoice. i like the pampering idea too..
