This is her second day of bad, Bad diarreah. She has already had 6 diarreah diapers just today, and probably had 6 or 7 yesterday. It has made a horrible painful diaper rash for her. The only different thing I fed her was instant pistacchio pudding yesterday. Do you think this could be why, and should I take her to the ER? what should I do?

If you have the question, I'd say yes.

Look, the one thing you can't do is take possibly very important medical advice from a bunch of know-nothing strangers on a message board. (I include myself.) No responsible doctor would give you advice without knowing more, and asking some questions.

Call your doctor, and get his opinion as to whether to take her in. He or she will probably say yes. The thing to worry about is dehydration, but you need to investigate the cause. You can't count on it being the pistachio (which was probably not a good idea, btw.)

my son is a year and a half and i had the same problem with him he was having bad diarrhea and bad diaper rash come to find out apple juice anything with sugar was messing his stomach up i took him to the doctor the doctor said that everything look fine . so what i did was not give him any sugars what so ever and his diaper rash clear up and no diarrhea . I don't think he can handle to much sugar right now so i give him those crystal light drinks and ever since then no problem i hope this helps but no i don't think you need to take her to the er if i was you don't give her anything else with any kind of sugar if she has any more diarrhea tonight don't wipe the diaper rash area with baby wipe that can cause it to get worse just put her straight into the bathtub then after the bathtub make sure her bottom is fully dry then put Vaseline on the diaper rash area NO DIAPER RASH CREAM by tomorrow you should see some results trust me i went trough this with my son it work.

You can probably hold off on going to the ER if she is drinking a lot. It could have been the pudding but sounds more like a virus. the biggest concern is dehydration. try giving her pedialyte or gatorade. Or really anything she will drink. As long as she is drinking a lot she should be ok. Try to avoid a lot of juice. It can make diarreah worse. If she will only take juice then dilute it to mostly water. As for the diaper rash, I am a big fan of desitin. Put it on like you are building a white wall! lol. it usually helps. Good Luck.

I just had the same problem with my 9 month old daughter. I don't know the exact cause, but what worked for us was taking her off formula for 24 hrs and giving her 7up without the fizz instead (done from her dr's details). For the diaper rash, I felt so bad it looked like it was about to start to bleed. I left her diaper off and put her on a blanket I didn't care much about on the floor for a little while every few hrs. I tried all the creams in the world and nothing seemed to work. I got desperate and called my mother who is a pharmacy tech and she told me to use cornstarch and stop using baby wipes. use warm, damp paper towels. it is aweful and I had my daughter back and forth to the dr a few times. When we put her back on the formula, my mom suggested we try a different brand. being that she was getting sick and diaper rashed it seems since they changed to those blue labels (I don't know what changes were actually made to the formula, but I know some).we were using similac advance with iron. we switched to nestle good start and she has been fine ever since.

Find an urgent care clinic and get her there! Until you can go, you should wipe her with washcloths, not wet wipes(they sting)! then you should put a thin layer of Vaseline/petroleum jelly on her bottom to help keep the acid from the diarrhea from touching her skin and burning it! I would say it is likely she is allergic to the nuts in the pudding, or some other new food, but ask the doc, don't take the advice of some bonehead on yahoo answers! I hope she feels better soon!

First, give her Pedialyte to drink, it helps keep her from getting dehydrated, second, call your pediatrician, asap. If you don't have a on-call medical advice service to ask advice of, then it is perfectly acceptable to take her to the ER. Is she running a fever? Does she have a rash(other than diaper rash)? She could very possibly not tolerate pistachios very well. Hope this helps some, and best of luck!

You have to know that the ER will not consider that an emergency. Especially if more serious cases come in, you will be there all night. If you have some sort of a nurses hot line, they may be able to help you make a more informed decision. But you will want to make sure she takes in plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration. Pedialyte is good. Not juices. They can cause diarrhea because there is too much sugar in it. Water is good. If she will eat bananas, that may help. It is binding and will firm up stools.

First and foremost give her lots of liquids. Does she have a fever? If there is question, I would first call your pediatrician assuming you have one. For little ones, Im not sure there is much you can give them for diahrrea. Make sure she is hydrated and again, if you have to question it, always be safe and err on the side of caution. My son just went through this, sometimes these things have to run their course. If there are other factors too you will have to dertermine what is best for your girl...even if its getting outside help .
The best advice I can give you about the rash, (my boy was two when this happened last month, instead of wiping the diahreah off of her bum, get a squirt bottle and squirt it on to her to wash off the waste. It will help to really clear it up, wont make her cry, and it is not painful, but soothing, My son was miserable and this helped threefold. You could try giving her popsicles too? she may be teething, teething causes excess saliva which also triggers diahhrea. Good luck

You should put her on a strict diet until diarreah goes away. This happened to my 15mth old at 13mths & my doctor said put him on a diet consisting of crackers, little pieces of bread, baked potato
rice, pedialyte or gatorade mixed with water, dry cheerios & also no milk.He was on this for 4days before the diarreah went away.It is probably a virus and they go away on their own.It could have something to do with the pudding but it is probably just coinsedince. No juice either.I was told to give gatorade evry 30mins 1oz so he would'nt get dehydrated.Good Luck!!!

Unless she has some unknown food allergy, it's hard to say what caused your daughter's diarrhea; however, she should most definitely be taken to the emergency room! 13 diarrhea diapers in 2 days is too much. If nothing else, the poor thing is going to dehydrate. Good luck & I hope she's okay.........now get to the er! :)
