Do women today want to be treated like a man in the workplace, like the head of the household, like a woman in society, and that anything less would be considered opressive?

well you're combining a couple of things...
I think most of us agree that the law should ensure that men and women are treated equally regarding employment and civic rights and responsibilities. And at the same time, if a couple wants to agree that the man mows the lawn while the woman vaccuums, well, thats okay. Nothing wrong with holding the door open for a successful business woman, is there?

A touchy subject. Women want to have all the same rights than men. Nothing wrong with that. But do they also want to have all the same roles? There just cannot be two "head of the household". It would be like having two Captains on a ship. When a deadlock in decision making is reached, someone MUST have final say. It isn't just an honour, but also a HUGE responsibility - because that person then will be to blame if the decision is wrong.
I think if you look in society now more and more men are less likely to get married. Especially if you have money. We know men almost never get custody of children in a divorce and the law supports women more in legal matters such as divorce. Men therefor are trading in their partners on a regular basis (often for a younger model... or when the 'commitment topic' starts to arise to frequently.) Marriage has become a bum deal for a lot of guys. And for the women? Who is winning? Has feminists gained all they had set out to gain, or have they gotten lost along the way? Feminism used to mean equalitarian, but sometimes that seemed to be untrue, maybe it has become a kind of reverse chauvinism.
I do think this generation of women aren't as bad for that as the previous one was. There still are some ladies out there. But beware, some are pretenders with nutcrushers in the handbag. JUST YOU DARE OPEN A DOOR FOR ME YOU CHAUVINIST PIG AND ....

So having a job, having a life outside of the home and family, and being in charge are "male" things and if anyone else wants to participate in them they are wanting to be treated like a man? How very strange that you define gender by things that have nothing to do with it. Women want to be treated like people. Put yourself in their shoes, would you want someone telling you what your place should be and that you have to deny your own personality, talents, dreams, wishes, and aspirations because it's not what some unintelligent weirdo freaks deem appropriate for your sex?

You need to grow up and learn about life. So do all the other ******* who are giving the thumbs down when women give their honest answers saying they just want to be treated like a human. It's sad that there are so many pathetic people in existance.

I think both sexes should be looked at objectively in the workplace. I think both sexes should be treated fairly. Since so many women are already heads of households, I don't see the point in worry about oppression. But I would worry about glass ceilings and good ole' boys clubs. As a society we still value reproduction and since women are the ones carrying the next generation I don't think most men are going to faint at the though of them getting a few extra weeks off in a lifetime, after all, they get to take all that time off when they have their heart attacks and no one thinks anything of it. Certainly if you want a lady to fall in love with you, I think a modicum of manners that indicate you respect her as a female, is worth the effort of opening a door when you are ahead of her, or offering your arm to get her across a puddle, or giving an order to a waiter after you've asked her what she wants, Done in a matter-of-fact way, it shows her you understand her as a social being.

As a woman I certainly do not wish to be treated like a man. I simply wish to treated with respect as a human being, not some mens and for that matter women's stereotyped idea of how a woman should be treated.

. no favorites no favoritism... if i am doing my equal share or more I want to be treated that way to be recognized as that way. I don't feel it fair that I am treated better than others who are just as good or better then me.. just treat tme as I am and as I do..in all honesty and fairness... if i can do a mans job as well or as good then treat me as his equal. head of house hold should be both providing they are both capable to do so.. anything less then what I am worth Will be degradable and very dis heartening to me and for me..I am a women of society if i work with other people.

yes it is! we're now in computer age, we have high technology....so there's no sense in making women stay in their houses and depend for their husbands. That belief is very primitive. we could see women everywhere...doing what men do. it's not opressive, women just want to do things they can. they want to be useful....they just use the potentials they have....

No. Women today want to be treated with dignity and respect. I assume that is no different than how men wish to be treated. We don't want to be treated "like" men. We don't want to wear suits and ties and pee standing up. It's common sense - treat others how you would want to be treated.

I feel sorry for men who have so little self-confidence they can only feel good about themselves when they are belittling women.
