light consists of transverse waves (particles vibrate perpindicular to the direction of wave propagation)

Actually there is no answer to this question. As you can see, some said particles, some said waves. Scientists have been unable to understand this characteristic of light. Sometime it behaves like particles, sometimes like waves, and so far no one has been able to reconcile the two. Maybe you will live long enough to learn the answer!

The term light, as commonly used, refers to the kind of radiant electromagnetic energy that is associated with vision. In a broader sense, light includes the entire range of radiation known as the electromagnetic spectrum. The branch of science dealing with light, its origin and propagation, its effects, and other phenomena associated with it is called optics. Spectroscopy is the branch of optics that pertains to the production and investigation of spectra. See also Optics; Spectroscopy.

'Light' is a myth. What you call 'light' is actually lack of darkness. When someone turns on a light, it immediately begins to suck up darkness. The amount of darkness that it can suck up is directly related to its wattage (or how 'bright' it is)
