I put a deposit on a TV (layaway) and the doors were closed when I went back. Do I have any recourse? Thankyou

More information required.
Did they go bankrupt? If so, contact the Trustee and file a Proof of Claim.

Is the business incorporated or sole proprietorship? Possible Small Claims Court remedy (if not a bankruptcy) .

Fraud suspected? Discuss with your legal Advisor.

Sounds to me like you MIGHT have a ax deduction for 4th qtr '06. See an accountant.

In past years, when you take a hit like a lost deposit, due to a business bankruptcy, you can take the loss against your income on your taxes.

This is goin to be a more expenssive option, but, you can also see a lawyer about suing the company for the loss. Most lawyers take a first visit and consulting for free.

Depends on how many creditors have claims. If the company in is bankruptcy court, take your receipt and you may have a chance to get your money back.
