I just want to cruise on Sat Nav and collision avoidance. But how much fuel will I need? I want a big enough boat! All other stuff is manageable with good preparation.

I am a Chief Engineer and have been a professional mariner for the past 20 years. I have crossed the Atlantic many times on commericial and military vessels.
My advice to you is before you attempt this adventure is to get some serious advice. The MCA (Marine Coastguard Agency) in the UK will probably advise you not to even attempt this venture without proper planning.
If you need to ask this question in the first place, YOU ARE NOT experienced enough to make the attempt.
The Atlantic Ocean going UK to America is going against all prevailing weather patterns, wind and ocean currents. Average daily speed will be reduced, which will increase the time of the voyage an therefore the amout of fuel required.
Coming into winter you would be crazy to cross any other way other that the southern great circle route, ie via the Azore's, this would mean a greater distance to travel. To rely solely on GPS and not back this up with at least a rudementry knowledge of navigation, including carrying the correct charts and compasses etc is foolhardly at best and suicidal at worst.
I would have included an example of fuel requirement calculations I use all the time on a commercial basis but I fear that this would only encourage you further.
Please seek advice from the MCA before continuing with the idea.
