Yes it will. You could get a 396 in a stock El Camino. Has same frame as a chevelle.A 454 is same block as the 366 short deck 396,402,and a new 502 or even 572 big block.

It will fit. The usual hurdles to look out for are engine mounts, exhaust system clearance, and you will probably need stiffer/stronger springs in the front suspension to balance out the extra weight of the big block. If you are going to use an HEI distributor, you might have to nudge the firewall back a little with a hammer to make some room.

Big block and small block chevrolet engines use the same mounts and transmission bolt pattren. The 454 will fit in the Camino, it it had a small block, all is good. If it had the 6cyl, trans will bolt up but will need mounts for the big block.

if it was a 6 cyl. you will have to change motor mounts, if not the mounts you have in there will work but your engine will sit a little higher and more to the right by a shade, if thats not a problem go with the mounts that are in the car now, also you might need new front springs unless you like the lowered look, a big block weighs about 200 more lbs, than a small block.

I wouldn't go beating on the firewall, but you shouldn't have to. I think you could get a 396 in the '68, so all the 396 parts should make the 454 bolt right in.
